I decided today to learn the 800 most basic Chinese characters during my stay here. It will require some discipline, but I am ready for it.

I'm also to build a circle of friends and finding out how to get my needs met while I am here.

In short, I am adjusting successfully.

First post from Beijing

Well, I decided it it time to get started on this blog I have been promising for so long.

I am now into my second month in China. I am currently teaching leadership and intercultural communication at Beijing Foreign Studies university and studying Mandarin.

The nights are long but the days are short, and I very much enjoy what I do. It is a privilege to be here and I am grateful for it.

Thanks to my students in intercultural communication for getting me started on this!
